How to find your type. You would know if you’re a Point 1

Earlier today, I published a story about High Achievers and Personality (Enneagram Point 3) and I received a lot of questions about how to find your type. There are nine personality types in the Enneagram and they are divided into three groups based on how you process things. Do you go by your gut, your head, or your heart?

I can recognize people that rely on their heads because I’m a head person. I think too much. I’m a Point 6 on the enneagram. And I can recognize point 3s like my father because they process things with their hearts. But by far the easiest point to recognize is Point 1 Perfectionists- they go by gut feelings.

Perfectionists know themselves and know that there is a correct way to do things. They are generally hard-working and serious. They are good instructors. The flip-side is that they can be know-it-alls and are compelled to correct others. They also struggle with anger and can be rigid.

I once had a law office manager that was a point 1 and the whole office used to have formal meetings (twice a week!) on how to deal with him. He couldn’t help himself, he was just a perfectionist. As you can imagine, lawyers are very opinionated so it was difficult having a perfectionist as a manager. But he had an answer for everything and was a very hard…
