When I was pregnant with my first child, I began to crave “regular” work hours. I worked in litigation which often meant long work hours.

I applied for a government job with State Compensation Insurance Fund. I received a letter with an interview date for a workers’ compensation litigation position.

The interview was scheduled for a few days after my due date. I called to reschedule since I was afraid the baby would come late.

I was told that I couldn’t reschedule as the interview was with three managers that had only one free day in the calendar. I was shocked that they wouldn’t even consider my pregnancy. Usually law firms went out of their way to recruit attorneys but I figured that if I was in the hospital on the day of the interview, it just wasn’t meant to be.

Turned out that my baby came two weeks early. I unfortunately had a lot of stitches that took over a week to heal but by the first week of February, I was able to walk again.
