My son, who goes by the name BuzzerBeater9, just earned $100 from streaming on Twitch. He plays video games with an interactive, live audience. How did a teenager turn a hobby into cash? I’ll let you in on his secrets.

Twitch allows active streamers to earn money through its Twitch Affiliate program. BuzzerBeater9, aka Jason, had enough streaming minutes (500) and average viewers (3) back in March of 2020 but he needed 50 followers to reach Twitch Affiliate. He had less than 25 followers when he started streaming seriously in March. He averaged about one new follower with each stream and it took him over a month to reach 50 followers. Once he had 50 followers, he was immediately invited to the Twitch Affiliate program.

Jason sent in documents to officially become a Twitch Affiliate and he went all out with his streams. BuzzerBeater9 had several 8-hour streams and a few 12-hour streams. During these marathon streams, he played 60-second commercials every few hours to take mini-breaks.

Twitch Affiliates are enabled to provide incentives to viewers. Viewers can earn channel points which can be redeemed for prizes. He has all sorts of rewards…
