Get Back Here, You Have to Catch the Baby!!!
-The last thing I said before my baby was born
“Don’t push,” my husband winced as I had my first contraction. We were alone in a brand new hospital room. My brother and sister-in-law had rushed out to tell the doctor that the baby was coming but for some reason no one came to assist with the birth. It hurt to hold back.
My husband wanted to see what was taking the doctor so long and he ran to the door. Another contraction came and I yelled out that headline. The baby wanted to be born.
Only one push and my son came flying out with the bag of waters. The bag must have popped and I saw my baby slide a little on the bed and my husband literally caught him as I heard water splash on the floor.
He did not immediately cry. My husband handed me the baby and then peaked his head out the door to alert the doctor. My tiny son looked incredibly clean. A team of people ran into the room with a metal cart.
“The baby’s here?” at least one of the nurses asked incredulously. She was repeating what my husband had yelled out a moment earlier.
A nurse bathed our bundle of joy. I heard him cry for the first time. And cry and cry. Beautiful, rhythmic and sweet. I felt another contraction and was momentarily confused. I still had to push out the afterbirth. The…
