Music just takes me back

I don’t know if Magic Mountain in Southern California still has a concert hall but I saw Oingo Boingo when I was in the fifth or sixth grade. My friends laughed about how we had no idea who they were when we saw them as kids; it was before Dead Man’s Party which came out in 1986.

I was the most excited to see En Vogue in 1991 at Disneyland’s Grad Nite. I was completely captivated by the a cappella singing of Hold On. And the lyrics went straight to my heart.

Remember he needs space
Be patient and he’ll give his heart to you
Don’t waste your time
Fighting blind minded thoughts of despair

I was disappointed that the show was super short. En Vogue continued to be my favorite group in college and I so wanted to hear Free Your Mind performed live. The venues at Disnelyland were intimate and my group of friends got to meet Timmy T. We also saw C+C Music Factory but Gonna Make You Sweat didn’t sound as polished as En Vogue. The main singer might have been swapped out.

This is from Disney World but I think the line up at Disneyland was the same

My college roommate scored concert tickets from her friends that worked at the local radio station in Salinas. I think that it was at one of these concerts that I heard some covered songs for the first time. I think that they covered Cypress Hill and I was so confused. I didn’t know…
