Chapter 5 Something Special, Something Sacred

“She’s not like that,” I overheard Harrison say in the hall. Not like what? He disappeared into the classroom. He wasn’t wearing a white sweatshirt. Although it was warm, I had been looking forward to showing off our school musical attire for a week.

When I entered the classroom, there were only a few students. Harrison was the only one sitting. I said hello as I noticed a note on my desk.

“Why aren’t you wearing your Fiddler on the Roof shirt?” I asked Harrison in a note referring to our school musical. We were supposed to be advertising the show. The white sweatshirt made me look like I had no curves whatsoever. Especially since I’d rather be wearing a spring dress right now. At least I had brown vintage cut-out heels.

“You don’t like my outfit?” Harrison wrote. I love your outfit. I felt warm thinking about how to respond. You look hot, I didn’t write. You can even rock overalls. I needed to stop myself from imagining him standing in front of his closet picking out clothes. In dark boxers. Instead I wrote, “What about school spirit?”

“I’ll leave that to you, Miss Student Council,” Harrison wrote back. Was he offended? I haven’t been on student council since freshman year. But I was one of those nerds that participated in school rallies. He seemed annoyed when I spent time working on student council stuff or talked to our class president during break. I totally looked forward to wearing my Fiddler on the Roof shirt to school. He probably saw me as…
