Kisses

“I have a Mustang,” Harrison suddenly announced. He turned around. “And I get my license on my birthday.” Which was in two months. How would he have money for such a fancy car? He turned back around. He smelled so fresh and clean. He must have used minty green soap on his tanned chest. And a blue towel to dry off.

“Will you give me a ride?” I whispered. I leaned forward to get close enough to Harrison’s ear. We could hang out. Maybe we could go to the beach or just talk in the car. Harrison held out his hand and rubbed his fingers together.

“What does that mean?” I asked, forgetting to whisper. Harrison turned around.

“Money…,” Harrison said without a smile. “If you pay for gas I’ll give you a ride,” he added seriously. He expected me to pay? He hasn’t been flirting with me at all. Guess we weren’t even friends. I should have known that Harrison would never go for me. We were so different.

Harrison turned around again and borrowed a ruler out of my Snoopy pencil box. It reminded me of the lunch box I had in fourth grade. I thought he had grabbed my lunch box jokingly. Only after he opened it we realized that we had the exact same Snoopy lunch box. How can you act like we’re friends? He laughed when he saw the logo on the ruler, “Lovely is Innocent.” He used the ruler to neatly fold a note.

“Love is not innocent,” Harrison’s note said. What did that mean? And why were you talking about love? Or…
