Something Special, Something Sacred

“Do you write notes to any other guys?” Harrison had asked in a one-line note. I almost choked on the crackers that I was munching on.

“Do you?” I quickly wrote Harrison back. The only other guy I wrote to was gossipy Sheldon but he was basically a girl I reasoned to myself. I had never written to any guy that I was interested in…

“I don’t write notes to guys. Your the only girl I ever write to,” Harrison wrote back. “I never write notes,” his scrawled note continued. Oh my god so much detail about how he didn’t write to anyone else. I wanted to stay calm but everything was racing inside of me.

“You’re the only one too,” I whispered to Harrison as I handed him my note. I felt myself trying too hard to be memorable. He probably never replayed anything I ever said. Guys weren’t silly like that. Like me.

Harrison asked me how my best friend from elementary school was doing in a note. Priyanka used to live in Harrison’s building. I couldn’t resist asking if he had dated my friend. I was almost glad that she had moved across town and went to a different high school now. I used to see Harrison at the sports park where he had soccer, tball, and basketball practice and I had gymnastics, baton and dance. Priyanka would join us briefly on Wednesdays after gymnastics.
